Trauma and PTSD can leave the mind and body responding as though past danger is still present. Where appropriate, Peter uses TRTP within a trauma-informed counselling approach to address underlying beliefs and protective responses, strengthen a felt sense of safety, and help clients move forward without repeatedly retelling every traumatic detail.
Depression and anxiety can develop when our usual or outdated ways of coping become overwhelmed. We may shut down, withdraw or become hypervigilant as the mind and body try to protect us from further hurt, danger, disappointment or shame.
Anger and addictive behaviours can develop as ways of coping with emotional pain, stress, trauma or unmet needs. Counselling can help identify the experiences, beliefs and triggers underlying these patterns, and give tools to building healthier ways to regulate emotions, manage pressure and respond more constructively.
Peter is Level 2 trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and supports couples through relationship challenges and transitions. Services include premarital counselling, couples therapy, marriage enrichment, sex therapy, affair recovery, tactical separation and divorce counselling.
